Managing and Protecting Biological Resources: Bats, Bugs, and Ferns

Dave Culver, Professor of Biology, American University

Caves harbor bats, obligate cave dwellers, and a great variety of life near the cave entrance. How to assess and protect these plants and animals will be explored.

I have been exploring caves since the mid-1960's when Ken Christiansen introduced me to caves and cave biology. I have written or edited 4 books, and over 80 articles on cave biology. While not anal retentive enough to keep a list of caves visited, it is certainly over 500, mostly in the U.S. and Slovenia. I have run workshops on cave protection for The Nature Conservancy as well as government agencies. I am currently Professor of Biology at American University and an associate of the Karst Waters Institute.
